It can be chemically synthesized via the following route: using methyl acrylate and methyl dichloroacetate as starting materials, condensing in the presence of sodium methoxide to yield dimethyl α-ketoglutarate; subsequently hydrolyzing under alkaline conditions to form the dialkali salt of α-ketoglutaric acid; and finally, reacting with calcium chloride to obtain the calcium α-ketoglutarate product.
